We would like to thank everyone who submitted an entry. We received well over 1000 essays this year and it was a pleasure reading through so many inspiring stories. Here are the winners of the 2017 GetSafe Scholarship Contest: 

  • 1st Place ($2,000): Julissa Cocco, who will be working to become a defense lawyer at Nassau Community College. She hopes to transfer to Columbia University where her late father also completed his degree.
  • 2nd Place($1,000): Michelle Harrison is currently attending Iowa Lakes Community College where she is studying Agricultural Education.

To enter the GetSafe Home Security Scholarship Essay Contest, write a 500-1,000 word essay that incorporates each of the following points:

  • Tell us about a burglary or crime that you or someone close to you experienced.
  • Tell us how this event affected your life and your future plans.

Submit your essay as a MS Word document to: scholarship@getsafe.com

You must use the following filename format for your Word document:

  • Full legal name and school
  • For Example: John_Smith_SFSU.docx

ESSAY DEADLINE: June 30, 2017


  • You must be a graduating senior in high school or currently enrolled in an undergraduate program for the 2017-2018 school year.
  • We reserve the right to verify the date of high school graduation or college enrollment.
  • Once submitted, your entry will become property of GetSafe Home Security and can be used by GetSafe Home Security for any purpose.
  • Only one entry per student permitted.
  • Entries containing plagiarized material or off-topic content will result in disqualification.
  • Winners will be notified by July 31, 2017.
